Kanpur: Mercury continued its rising trend in Kanpur on Saturday, with theweather observatory at CSA University recording a maximum temperature of41.9 degrees Celsius, 0.2 degrees higher than Friday’s reading. The minimumtemperature remained almost stagnant at 28.4 degrees Celsius.According to the observatory data, the maximum relative humidity increasedto 60 per cent, while south-westerly winds blew across the city at a speedof 6.3 km per hour. The combined effect of high temperature and humidity forced residents toendure intense heat and sultry weather conditions throughout the day. Theheat index in Kanpur on Saturday was estimated between 44 and 46 degreesCelsius, creating extremely hot and humid conditions. Heatwave-like weatheris currently prevailing in the region, officials said.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that severe heat andheatwave conditions will continue across all districts of the Kanpurdivision over the next couple of days. Maximum temperatures are likely toremain between 40 degrees Celsius and 45 degrees Celsius.The IMD further warned that the UV Index during afternoon hours wouldremain in the ‘very high’ category, between 8 and 9, increasing the risk ofskin damage from direct exposure to sunlight.In Kanpur Nagar, the maximum temperature is expected to range between 43.5degrees Celsius and 45 degrees Celsius, while minimum temperatures mayremain between 35 degrees Celsius and 37 degrees Celsius. Morning humidityis likely to hover between 53 and 60 per cent before dropping to 23–30 percent during the afternoon.Dr S.N. Sunil Pandey, in his weather report, observed that due toatmospheric moisture and increased moisture flow, cloud cover, haze andstrong winds are likely in the Kanpur division between June 27 and June 30.He also indicated the possibility of isolated light drizzle or light rainaccompanied by gusty winds and thundercloud activity in some areas.He added that temperatures may fluctuate by one to two degrees over thenext day, while humid and sultry conditions are expected to persist.
