PUNE: A house was hit by a landslide in a remote village in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Monday, raising fears that an entire family may be trapped under the debris, officials said.According to preliminary information, the landslide struck the house in Patan village, located in Mawal taluka, during the early hours of Monday.Authorities suspect that all members of the family residing in the house could be trapped beneath the collapsed structure.Following the incident, assistance was sought from the 5th Battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) based in Pune.A 30-member NDRF rescue team, comprising one officer, two senior officers and 27 personnel, was immediately dispatched to the site at around 5:50 am. The team is being led by inspector Ravinder under the supervision of assistant commandant Chandraketu Sharma and is equipped with the necessary disaster response equipment.Rescue operations are currently underway to locate and evacuate any survivors trapped under the debris.Landslides hit Mumbai–Pune ghat section, disrupt rail and road trafficHeavy rainfall on Monday triggered landslides in the Mumbai–Pune ghat section, severely affecting both rail and road connectivity between the two cities.Several train services were cancelled or diverted after boulders fell onto railway tracks, while traffic on the Mumbai–Pune Expressway and the old highway was suspended until further notice due to a major landslide.Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reviewed the situation and said restoration work was in progress despite continued heavy rainfall.(With agency inputs)
