Jaipur: The Assembly session was extended by two days, March 9 and 10, following a decision taken by the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), chaired by Speaker Vasudev Devnani, Friday. The extension aims to facilitate the passage of key legislative amendments linked to local body elections and other pending bills. According to the schedule finalised in the BAC meeting, the House will remain adjourned on March 7 and 8, while legislative business will resume on March 9 and 10. On March 9, the Assembly will take up discussion and passage of the Rajasthan Panchayati Raj (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Rajasthan Ayurveda and Yoga Medical University Bill, 2026. The Panchayati Raj amendment bill is expected to remove the provision that disqualifies candidates with more than two children from contesting local body elections. On March 10, the House will debate and pass the Rajasthan Municipalities (Amendment) Bill, 2026, and the Maharana Pratap Sports University Bill, 2026.Officials said the amendments to the Municipalities Act and Panchayati Raj Act are crucial for synchronising the election cycle of local bodies, a step viewed as part of the broader effort towards implementing the “One State, One Election” model for urban and rural local bodies. The proposed changes are expected to streamline the conduct of municipal and panchayat elections and align them within a unified electoral schedule across the state.
