Lucknow: A 69-year-old doctor shot himself with his licensed revolver at his residence in Civil Lines area in Sitapur district Friday afternoon.The doctor, Rajendra Chaudhary, ran a clinic in Khairabad.Police said that Chaudhary had lunch around 1pm and went to his room on the first floor of his house. His wife Shakti Chaudhary (65), who was downstairs, heard a gunshot and rushed upstairs. She found her husband lying face down on the bed in a pool of blood. The bullet had pierced through his temple.Police seized the weapon and collected evidence from the scene. Officials said the victim’s wife was in deep shock and unable to give a statement. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the couple’s two sons live away — one serving as a doctor in the Air Force in Kharagpur, and the other pursuing LLB in Lucknow.ASP, Sitapur, Vinayak Bhosale said the reason behind the extreme step was yet to be ascertained.Neighbours described the doctors as a happy-go-lucky person who rarely showed signs of stress. “He was always smiling and never seemed worried about the future. It is hard to believe he could take such a step,” said Ramesh Verma, a neighbour.Residents also recalled his active involvement in social causes. “He used to support people in need, be it medical help or financial assistance,” said Anil Kumar, another neighbour.
