Nagpur: The car driver, whose alleged reckless driving led to the death of a 61-year-old woman on Saturday evening, has been charged with non-bailable culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The accident took place around 6pm on the road connecting Radhemangal Hall to Swaroop Nagar, near Vijaya Hospital, in Ranapratap Nagar police station limits.Police had rounded up Harsh Palewar after the accident. They are trying to ascertain his role in the accident.
Police said Simran Mane, 19, was riding a scooter when a speeding car rammed into her vehicle from behind. The collision caused Mane to fall and suffer injuries.The speeding car driver allegedly did not stop, lost control, and struck pedestrian Bhagyashree Kathiwan (61), a resident of Deendayal Nagar. The car then crashed into an electric pole and a DP box. Kathiwan sustained grave injuries and was declared dead on arrival at Viveka Hospital. Mane underwent treatment and is said to be stable.On the complaint lodged by Mane, police registered a case against the car driver under Sections 281, 105, 125(B), 324(3) of BNS, Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act, and Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.Sections 105 and 125(B) of the BNS carry non-bailable punishment for causing death by a rash or negligent act amounting to culpable homicide.Police are scanning CCTV footage and collecting eyewitness statements.
