AKOLA: An Akola cop, Rajesh Jadhav, was suspended late Tuesday after a woman in police lockup alleged he sought sexual favours from her. An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Civil Lines police station here, Jadhav is currently on the run. He was later arrested on Wednesday.Police sources said, the woman was in custody in connection with an alleged Rs 80 lakh cyber fraud case and was remanded in police custody. Jadhav was on duty as a lockup guard, when he offered money in exchange for sexual favours, said police.The woman undertrial claimed he also made objectionable comments about her daughter, allegedly saying she should send her to him, and he would pay Rs 10,000 and “sort out her case”.Following the complaint, a case was registered against the accused under relevant provisions of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and departmental action was initiated.Talking to TOI, Akola SP Archit Chandak said, “We acted swiftly and registered an FIR the same night and suspended the cop. Such conduct will not be tolerated under any circumstances.” He added the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness as it involves safety and dignity of a woman in custody.Senior police inspector Anil Jumle, who is overseeing the probe, said the accused had allegedly fled the police station premises soon after the FIR was lodged. Three teams were formed to locate Jadhav. Former State Women’s Commission member, Dr Asha Mirge, claimed complaints about Jadhav’s conduct had surfaced in the past as well. “Allegations about his inappropriate behaviour had been brought to notice a decade ago, including a complaint by his wife and a woman cop.
