Mumbai: The political landscape at Shivaji Park shifted dramatically as the Shiv Sena (UBT) brought its organisational muscle to what had been a largely student-led movement.The contrast with earlier, grassroots demonstrations was clear. A high-energy atmosphere took over as rap songs and patriotic numbers were belted out on strategically placed loudspeakers while the crowd swerved. A dedicated DJ-cum-host actively engaged the gathering.Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray said to those assembled, “I have promised there will be no political speeches today so there won’t be any… We are standing here with you so that when you protest no one can touch you.” He added, “This is the voice of the people and Delhi will have to listen.”Aaditya Thackeray urged the youngsters to hold their ground, saying, “Hunger strike is over but the protest is not over. Do not fall silent at least until Dharmendra Pradhan resigns.” He added, “We used to think Gen Z and Gen Alpha have taught us a new language of dissent, but in truth, you have taught us bravery, so I salute you.”Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Sainath Durge said that ahead of the Shivaji Park protest, several teams were formed, which included functionaries from the Yuva Sena, the Shiv Sena (UBT) and other local functionaries. “Multiple meetings were held with the police and other authorities to plan the route of the protestors. Aaditya Thackeray held meetings with student groups and our party members on video conferencing to ensure no untoward incident occurred at the protest,” Durghe said.Durghe added that Sena (UBT) volunteers were manning the by-lanes leading to the protest site.(Inputs by Chaitanya Marpakwar)
