T’puram: A seminar on ‘BRICS Expansion and Strengthening Alliances Beyond the West’ was conducted at the Russian House in the state capital on Saturday.The senior consul at the Russian Consulate General in Chennai, Sergey Azarov, who inaugurated the seminar, said the BRICS bloc is increasingly seen as a vehicle for South–South cooperation. The significant expansion of BRICS, with the addition of Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates, signals not just growth in membership but a deliberate realignment of international alliances. This alliance moves away from Western-centric institutions and towards a more representative global system.The honorary consul of Russia and director of the Russian House, Ratheesh C Nair, remarked that BRICS is an ideal platform for promoting a multipolar world. An expert on international relations, P Anilkumar, noted that the 17th BRICS Summit, held in Rio de Janeiro, marks a critical juncture in the evolution of global power dynamics, with Russia emerging as a key architect of a multipolar world order.
