Facility available till May 31; Houselisting from June 1 to 30

Srinagar, May 17: The Self-Enumeration (SE) facility for Census 2027 commenced on Sunday in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gujarat, and Puducherry and will remain available till May 31, 2026, with the corresponding Houselisting and Housing Census field operations to be conducted from June 1 to June 30, 2026, according to an official statement.
The SE facility, introduced for the first time in Census operations, has received an encouraging response, with more than 1.44 crore households having already completed Self-Enumeration through the official portal (se.census.gov.in) across 25 States and Union Territories.
Field operations for the Houselisting and Housing Census (HLO) under Phase I have commenced in five States/UTs: Rajasthan, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Jharkhand, and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) area in Delhi NCT. House-to-house HLO operations by Enumerators are presently in progress in 11 other States/UTs.
The SE facility is also currently underway in Uttar Pradesh and will continue till May 21, 2026, following which HLO field operations will be conducted from May 22 to June 20, 2026.
Earlier, HLO operations from April 16 to May 15 were completed in Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Mizoram, Odisha, Sikkim, NDMC area, and Delhi Cantonment Board area.
Residents who have completed Self-Enumeration are requested to keep their generated SE ID ready and share it with the Enumerator during the field visit to complete the HLO process. Households not opting for self-enumeration will be covered during physical house-to-house visits.
Census 2027 is being conducted using digital tools for the first time while retaining traditional door-to-door enumeration. Enumerators collect data digitally through a dedicated mobile application, covering 33 notified questions on housing conditions, household details, amenities, and assets.
All data collected under the Census Act, 1948, remains strictly confidential and is used solely for statistical purposes and development planning. Residents in notified States/UTs have been requested to extend full cooperation.
