Lucknow: Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh has accepted BJP’s charge that the anti-CEC protests are about regime change, stating that wanting to change a govt is a constitutional right. In a video message in response to statements by various BJP netas, including UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, Singh said that nobody would be allowed to play with the country’s sovereignty; Singh said that BJP appeared confused about the protests.“We are not on the streets to celebrate PM Modi’s birthday. We are not getting beaten up and detained because we have come to organise a kitty party for the PM. Dr Ambedkar gave us a Constitution which says that a govt will be elected every five years. It also gives us the right to protest over issues concerning people. Those who don’t work for the people will have to go,” he said.He asked if the PM believed that he had the right to rule over the country for his entire life. “You think it’s your birthright to be in power all your life? In a democracy, it is the people’s right to seek regime change and it is a crime to steal votes,” he said.“If BJP is so large-hearted, why is it contesting elections in states like Punjab where there are no BJP govts, if not to seek power there? BJP is adept at illegally toppling govts but is now crying about regime change,” he said.
