Srinagar, Sep 25: The 35th Union Territory Level Security Committee (UTLSC) meeting for Jammu and Kashmir was held here on Thursday to review security arrangements for currency chests, ATMs and movement of cash and other valuables.
The meeting, chaired by Principal Secretary, Home Department, Chandraker Bharti, was held under the aegis of Reserve Bank of India Regional Director for J&K and Ladakh, Prabhakar Jha.
Senior officials from J&K Police, CRPF, CBI, RBI, J&K Bank, Fire and Emergency Services, Airport Authority, Indian Railways and Air India, besides representatives of other government departments and commercial banks, attended the meeting.
The committee reviewed the adequacy of security and guarding arrangements at currency chest premises, measures to mitigate fire risks and the installation and maintenance of security and surveillance equipment.
It also discussed incidents involving attacks, theft attempts and other security breaches at ATMs, with emphasis on effective implementation and monitoring of e-surveillance systems.
The meeting further deliberated on the circulation of fake Indian currency notes (FICNs) in J&K and the need to strengthen preventive and detection mechanisms. Officials stressed regular training and capacity building of bank personnel to identify fake notes, timely reporting of suspicious currency and strict adherence to prescribed security protocols.
