SUV at 100kmph crashes into 2 vans on Noida eway

NOIDA: A 55-year-old woman died and five others were injured after an SUV cruising at 100kmph on Noida Expressway crashed into two vans near Sector 82 early on Sunday. Police said a Mahindra Scorpio hit two Maruti Eeco vans from behind just seconds apart. The impact caused one of the vans and the SUV to overturn on the carriageway from Delhi.The occupants of the two Eecos were travelling towards Greater Noida around 3am when the Scorpio — registered in Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh — ploughed into them one after the other. “They were returning from the wedding of a relative in Delhi and were on their way towards Greater Noida when a Mahindra Scorpio hit both vans from behind,” said Praveen Singh, ACP-1.A senior police officer said the Scorpio was travelling at over 100 kmph when the accident occurred.A passer-by alerted police on dial 112, following which a team reached the spot and shifted the injured passengers to a nearby hospital. The woman — Asha Devi of Risauli village in Budaun — later succumbed to her injuries. Her relatives Rajkumar (70), Reena (35), Shripal (30) and Ravi (30), all from Budaun, were among those injured. Some of the injured, including the Scorpio driver, are in the ICU, according to cops.Police said there were six persons in each van, while the Scorpio had only its driver, identified as Shivam Kumar (31), a resident of Sector 142.All three damaged vehicles were later removed from the expressway. ACP Singh said police had received a written complaint from the woman’s family and the process of registering an FIR was underway.
