Srinagar, Jul 26: Schools across the Kashmir Division and the Winter Zones of Jammu are set to reopen on Monday after the government concluded the extended summer vacation announced due to persistent rainfall and adverse weather conditions.

Education Minister Sakeena Itoo said all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure the smooth reopening of educational institutions. She expressed hope that normal academic activities would resume without any disruption.

The summer vacation, initially scheduled to end earlier, was extended for schools in the Winter Zone of Jammu Division till July 22. Later, the School Education Department announced a further extension till July 26 for all government and recognised private schools across the Kashmir Division and the Winter Zones of Jammu in view of continuous rainfall and forecasts of heavy showers, flash floods, landslides and waterlogging.

Addressing concerns over damage caused by the recent rains, the minister said that if any school building has suffered damage, the concerned Zonal Education Officers have already been directed to take immediate action and ensure that students do not face any inconvenience.

She stressed the need to complete the academic syllabus without further delay. Itoo also directed the education department to give special attention to students’ studies and make every effort to cover the pending syllabus at the earliest.

Highlighting the government’s education initiatives, the minister said providing free education to children belonging to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families is a major achievement, as many of these children were earlier unable to access quality education due to financial constraints.

With weather conditions improving, schools are reopening today, marking the resumption of regular classroom teaching after the extended break. Parents have welcomed the decision, hoping that students will now be able to continue their studies without further interruption.
