Noida: Amid relentless heatwave conditions sweeping across Ghaziabad, the district administration on Thursday ordered summer vacations for all schools across boards from May 23, citing concerns over children’s health and safety.The order, issued following directions from the district magistrate, also asked the people to follow the advisories by the IMD to protect themselves from extreme temperatures.The administration observed that some schools had not yet declared vacations despite temperatures hovering around dangerous levels “which could potentially impact children’s health”.“In view of the above, summer vacation is declared from May 23, 2026, in all schools affiliated with the Basic Education Council and all boards of the Secondary Education Department operating in the district,” the order added.However, it clarified that CBSE board examinations scheduled during this period would continue as usual.Meanwhile, in Noida, while no such order has been released yet, most schools have announced summer breaks from May 22.Earlier, on May 20, summer vacations had been announced only for govt primary schools. The latest order expands the closure to all schools across boards in the district, including private institutions.Parents across the city welcomed the move, saying children were struggling to cope with the scorching weather during school hours.“My son returns home completely exhausted every afternoon. Even mornings feel unbearably hot now. Continuing classes in this weather was becoming risky,” said Priya Sharma, a parent from Indirapuram.Another parent, Rajeev Bansal from Vasundhara, said children were finding it difficult to concentrate in classrooms. “Kids are carrying water bottles, caps and towels every day, but the heat is simply too much. The administration’s decision was absolutely necessary,” he said.The India Meteorological Department has predicted continued heatwave conditions in parts of western Uttar Pradesh over the coming days, with daytime temperatures remaining well above normal. Authorities have advised residents to avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak afternoon hours and stay hydrated.
