Jharsuguda: A school bus carrying students of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya was stuck on a muddy temporary diversion road in Lakhanpur block of Jharsuguda district on Monday morning. The bus was on its way to the school when it ran into trouble near an under-construction culvert on the main approach road, forcing vehicles to use an earthen bypass as an alternative. Intermittent rain over the past few days had inundated the diversion and made it slippery. As the bus tried to cross the stretch, its wheels sank into the mud, leaving it stranded. The driver halted the vehicle immediately and evacuated the students as a precaution. They were later shifted to another bus. No injuries were reported.A video of the incident surfaced on social media, showing students getting off the stranded bus as local residents gathered at the spot. The episode has raised concerns over the safety of schoolchildren using temporary diversion roads during the monsoon, especially near ongoing infrastructure works.Jharsuguda district education officer Radhakanta Gartia said, “Due to heavy rainfall, a school bus ferrying students got stuck on a muddy temporary road near an under-construction culvert, about 2km from the school. However, the driver immediately stopped the bus, asked the students to alight, and then transferred them to another bus. We have instructed all drivers to be more cautious in the rainy season and to avoid such roads.”
