Pune: No major monsoon revival is expected this week in the state or the city, although rainfall is likely in different locations, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast.Meanwhile, no rainfall was recorded in key city areas on Sunday. Even catchments of dams, which provide water to Pune and surrounding areas (Khadakwasla, Temghar, Panshet and Varasgaon), experienced no showers. The collective water storage of the four dams was around 16.33 TMC (around 57.35% of total capacity) as of July 12.The catchment of Bhama Askhed dam, which provides water mostly to eastern parts of the city, also did not record rainfall either. It had 5.75 TMC water (around 75% of total capacity) on Sunday.According to IMD officials, the forecast for the week is “mainly clear sky becoming partly cloudy sky towards afternoon or evening”. Some light rain is expected during the weekend.“Isolated to scattered rainfall is likely over Konkan and Goa from July 12-14; the Gujarat region, Madhya Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kachchh during July 12-18; and Marathwada from July 14-18,” said the weather forecast.Met officials also said a number of weather systems are present in the country at the moment. They include the monsoon trough, Western Disturbance, and upper air cyclonic circulations lying over northeast Bihar, south Bangladesh and its neighbourhood, and over northeast Assam and its neighbourhood.“The conditions are not favourable to cause heavy to very heavy rains in Pune or a majority of areas in the state. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over northeast India, West Bengal and Bihar during the next two or three days, and isolated heavy rainfall over east Uttar Pradesh for four or five days. Isolated extremely heavy rainfall is also predicted over Meghalaya on July 12,” said a senior IMD official, choosing anonymity.He added that subdued rainfall activity is likely over the plains of northwest, west-central and south Peninsular India during the next six to seven days.
