Kolkata: The preliminary post mortem report of 16-year-old Sarit Ghosh who drowned in a swimming pool at Rabindra Sarobar, read death due to drowning while investigators said they are awaiting a final report to know if the youth has suffered a cardiac arrest. “We have sent the blood tissue samples and have sent it for histopathological test to confirm the root cause behind his death. The test report will tell us if the boy was suffering from any underlying disease or if he had suffered a cardiac arrest while swimming leading to his death,” said an officer. Ghosh, a class 11 student of a popular English-medium school in Kolkata and an experienced swimmer for eight years. He was allegedly practicing underwater breath holding technique inside the swimming pool at Lake Friends Club in Rabindra Sarobar when he collapsed and died on Friday evening.Since the incident, the boy’s family from Panchanantala Road in Dhakuria have lodged a complaint to probe into the circumstances leading to the boy’s death. However, the parents did not name anyone in the complaint.Following the complaint, cops sealed the swimming pool and have shut down the swimming club for an indefinite period.“We are cooperating with the police and have kept the premises shut. Cops have already questioned the six trainers who were on duty at the time of the incident. We are also ready with the phone numbers and addresses of the swimmers who were at the pool on that day. ,” said Prabir Banerjee, a senior official of the club.“He was such a brilliant swimmer. He had also bagged second prize in a recent club level competition. In fact many other senior swimmers used to take tips from him. How can he die in a swimming pool with so many people around? The cops should thoroughly inspect,” said Prabir Dey, Ghosh’s uncle.Ghosh’s family conducted his cremation on Sunday as they waited for several relatives living in other states like Kerala to come back and pay their homage to the boy.Ghosh’s father Soumendra Mohan, a senior official of state biodiversity board was also inconsolable. “I was on my way to Bishnupur when I received a call and was told my son was unresponsive. I immediately got down at Kharagpur and took a cab back to Kolkata. But by then it was already very late,” said the father.
