Kanpur: Sand-laden dumpers collided on the Biwar-Jalalpur road in Hamirpur district in the early hours of Wednesday, causing both vehicles to catch fire. The helper of the dumper that rear-ended the other was burned to death on the spot, while driver was seriously injured.The crash occurred around 2:30 am when a speeding dumper rammed into another dumper that had reportedly broken down and was stationed on the roadside. The impact triggered a massive blaze, engulfing both vehicles within moments.According to police, the accident took place on Bandhur Road under the Biwar police station area, nearly two kilometres from Biwar village. Both dumpers were transporting sand from Bhedi village in the Jalalpur police station limits. One of the vehicles had developed a mechanical fault mid-route and remained stranded on the road when the second dumper crashed into it from behind with tremendous force. Soon after the collision, flames erupted from both vehicles. The dumper that hit from behind was completely gutted in the fire. Its helper, trapped inside the cabin, could not be rescued and died on the spot, while the driver sustained serious burn injuries.After receiving information, police teams from the Biwar police station rushed to the scene and launched rescue operations. Firefighters battled the blaze for a considerable time before bringing it under control. The injured driver was later shifted to a hospital for treatment.Police said efforts were underway to establish the identity of the deceased. The exact cause of the accident is being investigated.
