Mumbai: Police registered a case of data theft against a 20-year-old woman employed at celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim’s Hakim Aalim Salon in Khar (W) for allegedly copying CCTV video footage of haircuts of Bollywood celebrities and Indian cricketers who visited the salon and uploading it on her social media page. The case was registered on a complaint received on March 1 by the owner Hakim himself.

Police served a notice to Khan and booked her under the Information Technology Act Sections 43, which penalises accessing, downloading, copying, or extracting data without authorisation, and 66, which deals with hacking or data theft. “No arrest has been made in the case as the matter is under probe. Notice has been served to Khan,” said an officer of Khar police station. Khan was one of the 30 people employed at Hakim’s salon.In the complaint, Hakim said, “We have placed a computer on the reception table for CCTV recording. Actors, cricketers and big businessmen come to our salon for a haircut. On Feb 5, a celebrity visited our salon. His CCTV recording was copied by Khan from the computer to her mobile and then uploaded on Snapchat.” Hakim stated in the FIR that Khan had knowingly and dishonestly accessed the CCTV footage of the celebrities who came to the salon, and made it viral on social media.
