MUMBAI: The Bangladeshi national accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in January last year, on Thursday again moved an application seeking to plead guilty in the case, nearly a month after the court rejected his earlier plea.A Mumbai court had rejected his application on September 11 and ruled that he would face trial in the case, news agency PTI reported.The accused, Mohammad Shariful Islam, was arrested two days after the January 16, 2025, incident at the actor’s residence and is currently in judicial custody.On Thursday, Islam again told the court that he intended to plead guilty to all the charges.Additional sessions judge GP Deshmukh, who is presiding over the matter, directed prison authorities to make a formal communication with the Bangladesh embassy and facilitate Islam in getting in touch with the embassy.The accused has been charged under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for robbery accompanied by the use of a deadly weapon, causing grievous hurt and house trespass.He also faces charges under relevant sections of the Foreigners Act and Passport (Entry into India) Rules, PTI reported.Khan was repeatedly stabbed with a knife by an intruder inside his 12th-floor apartment in upscale Bandra. The 54-year-old actor underwent emergency surgery at Lilavati Hospital and was discharged five days later.Islam was arrested by police two days after the alleged incident.(With agency inputs)
