Kumod Verma | TNNPatna: The railways has installed rubberised track crossings, popularly known as barrow crossings, at the east and west ends of platform number 1 at Patna Junction to ensure smooth movement of heavy parcel trolleys.According to senior divisional commercial manager (DCM) Abhinav Siddarth, the initiative is aimed at facilitating safer and smoother movement of parcel trolleys across platforms. Patna Junction, one of the busiest railway hubs under the East Central Railway’s Danapur division, witnesses heavy loading and unloading of luggage parcels throughout the year, he said. The newly installed rubberised track crossing has been directly linked from platform number 1 to platforms 2, 3, 4 and 5, enabling heavy parcels to move across tracks more conveniently with luggage, trolleys and other belongings. The rubberised surface provides better grip and stability, reducing the risk of slips and falls, Siddarth said. The facility is expected to particularly benefit differently-abled passengers by ensuring easier access between platforms through wheelchairs. Besides, the modern crossing system is designed to withstand heavy usage and improve overall station infrastructure, he said.Siddarth said the installation forms part of the railways’ ongoing efforts to modernise station facilities and improve the travel experience for passengers. Similar infrastructure upgrades are likely to be considered at other major stations under the Danapur division in the coming days, he added. In addition, the Bihar Daily Passengers’ Association has welcomed the move, describing it as a practical step towards making the movement of heavy parcel luggage within the station safer and more convenient for loading and unloading.
