Nagpur: More than Rs 86 crore of Rs 108 crore sanctioned for youth welfare, sports and gymnasium development schemes in Gondia, Yavatmal, Akola, Chandrapur, Nagpur, Washim and other districts was spent, the Maharashtra Legislative Council was informed on Monday.MLC Dr Parinay Fuke asked whether sports complexes in these districts remained incomplete due to poor planning and coordination gaps between the sports department, district sports officers and local bodies. Smt Sunetra Pawar, replying on behalf of the Deputy CM, denied the claims.The reply stated that Rs 108.51 crore was received by these districts through District Planning Committees for five schemes: youth welfare, gymnasium development, innovative schemes, sports ground development and social service camps. Of this, Rs 86.44 crore was spent. No district-wise expenditure breakdown was provided.The reply denied that funds were wasted due to incomplete projects, and denied that coordination failures among agencies responsible for sports infrastructure caused delays. No district-wise list of commissioned sports facilities was placed on record.
