LUCKNOW: Samajwadi Party‘s Rajya Sabha nominee Dhanraj Parimal Nathwani has declared assets worth more than Rs 705 crore in his nomination affidavit, an amount that exceeds the declared assets of the richest candidates seen in recent Uttar Pradesh Assembly and Lok Sabha elections based on publicly available election affidavits.According to election watch and ADR reports for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, BJP’s Amit Agarwal was the richest candidate in the first phase with declared assets of Rs 148.76 crore, followed by BSP’s S K Sharma with Rs 112.29 crore and SP’s Rahul Yadav with Rs 100.63 crore.According to Nathwani’s affidavit, he has declared movable assets worth Rs 77.75 crore and immovable assets valued at Rs 627.67 crore, taking his total declared assets to Rs 705.42 crore.He has reported liabilities of Rs 25.93 crore and an income of Rs 19.61 crore for the assessment year 2025-26.Nathwani described himself as a professional consultant to Reliance Industries Ltd and a director in several unlisted companies. His income has been shown from consultancy services, director’s remuneration, rental income, capital gains and other sources.His disclosures include investments in shares, mutual funds, bank deposits, insurance products and agricultural, residential and commercial properties.His declared assets are also substantially higher than those disclosed by several prominent political leaders from Uttar Pradesh in their latest election affidavits.BSP chief Mayawati declared assets of about Rs 111.6 crore, SP president Akhilesh Yadav around Rs 42 crore in his 2024 Lok Sabha affidavit, and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath about Rs 1.5 crore in his 2022 Assembly election affidavit.The other Samajwadi Party nominee, Prof Ram Gopal Yadav, has declared total assets of Rs 12.58 crore, comprising Rs 4.61 crore in movable assets and Rs 7.97 crore in immovable assets.His affidavit shows liabilities of Rs 99.86 lakh and an annual income of Rs 47.93 lakh for AY 2025-26. He described himself as a pensioner with income from pension, agriculture and rental earnings.Both Nathwani and Ram Gopal Yadav have declared that they have no pending criminal cases or convictions.
