Surat: A city-based event manager has alleged that he was cheated of Rs 1.41 crore by two Mumbai-based men who promised to organise a concert of singer Arijit Singh in the city but failed to deliver the event or return the money.Utran police have registered a case against the two who are associated with the entertainment and film industry.According to the complaint filed by the 28-year-old co-owner of event company, the duo reportedly told the complainants that the event would cost around Rs 9 crore, but claimed they would secure sponsorships and promotional support to reduce the financial burden.Police said that after making the assurances, the accused allegedly continued to collect money from the complainants on various pretexts. The complainants were also taken to Pune to attend an Arijit Singh concert, with all travel and related expenses allegedly borne by them. The accused are further alleged to have stayed at luxury hotels in Surat and Mumbai at the complainants’ expense.When the promised concert failed to materialise, the accused allegedly offered to arrange shows featuring comedian Kapil Sharma and actor-dancer Nora Fatehi instead. However, those events, too, never took place.After repeated requests for a refund went unanswered, Borada approached Utran police and lodged a complaint alleging cheating of Rs 1.41 crore.
