Chennai: Railway Protection Force and police seized cash, gold and banned tobacco products during checks across city.At Chennai Central, RPF personnel detained a 27-year-old man from Odisha and seized 60 lakh in cash after he failed to produce valid documents on Wednesday. Santosh Ram, who arrived by the Howrah Mail, was handed over to the I-T department along with the seized amount.RPF’s election special team at Central also seized four gold bars weighing 289g, and 7.5 lakh in cash from Padmanaban Jayaraj, 43, a native of Salem, travelling on the Coimbatore-Chennai Express.Election flying squad officials seized 30kg of gutka at New Washermenpet on Tuesday night. The contraband was found in an autorickshaw intercepted at the junction of SN Chetty Street and Veera Raghavan Street. The driver, Pushparaj, 32, was detained.tnn
