Patna: The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of East Central Railway (ECR) posted a strong performance across its five divisions in 2025–26, intensifying crime control measures and extending wide-ranging assistance to passengers. ECR’s principal chief security commissioner-cum-IG RPF Amaresh Kumar said the force carried out focused operations to enhance passenger safety, prevent crime and provide humanitarian support.Under Operation Nanhe Farishtey, RPF rescued 2,269 minors, including 1,582 boys and 687 girls. Through Operation Amanat, personnel recovered 3,794 pieces of lost or stolen luggage worth over Rs 4.07 crore and returned them to passengers.Prompt response in emergency situations under Operation Jeevan Rakshak led to 199 lives being saved on railway tracks, including 122 men and 77 women. As part of its crime-control drive, Operation Yatri Suraksha resulted in the registration and detection of 1,380 cases, including 14 dacoities, 14 robberies, two drug cases, 109 luggage thefts, 41 chain-snatching incidents and 872 pickpocketing cases.Focusing on women’s safety, Operation Mahila Suraksha saw 34,881 cases registered for unauthorised travel in women’s coaches. A total of 34,874 offenders were arrested and fines of Rs 93.36 lakh imposed. Under Operation Sewa, RPF extended assistance to 553 elderly passengers during their journeys.The crackdown on illegal activities under Operation Satark led to solving of 1,526 liquor-related cases, 1,763 arrests and seizure of valuables worth over Rs 3.23 crore. In cases of alarm chain pulling, 14,179 cases were registered, resulting in 14,035 arrests and fines of Rs 68.80 lakh.In its fight against human trafficking, Operation Aaht resulted in the rescue of 516 minors—472 boys and 44 girls—and the arrest of 147 traffickers. Meanwhile, Operation WILEP led to the registration of 42 cases and the arrest of 41 people involved in illegal wildlife transportation.Further strengthening security, Operation Rail Suraksha resulted in 408 cases, 372 arrests and recovery of stolen property worth Rs 41.68 lakh during the year, Kumar said.
