Udupi: A rowdy element under Udupi City police station limits was arrested under the Goonda Act on Wednesday.The arrested suspect is Charan Raj,29, a resident of Kumdel, Pudu village, Bantwal taluk, Dakshina Kannada. Following a report submitted by the superintendent of police of Udupi, the district magistrate and deputy commissioner issued the order for his detention on Wednesday.A total of 10 cases have been registered against the accused at the Bantwal Rural, Surathkal, Mangaluru East, and Udupi City police stations. These include charges of attempted murder, assault, unlawful assembly, atrocities against women, drug consumption, drug trafficking, and offenses under the SC/ST Act. Among these, three cases resulted in conviction, two in acquittal, four are currently under judicial trial, and one remains under investigation. SP Hariram Shankar stated that an order has been issued to keep the arrested accused in detention at the Shivamogga Central Prison.
