Chandigarh: The municipal corporation Friday launched the upgradation of the Rose Club in Sector 16 under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, with mayor Saurabh Joshi laying the foundation stone for the project.MC chief engineer Sanjay Arora said the club would undergo a comprehensive makeover and be developed into a modern recreational and community hub. The revamped facility will feature a restaurant, café, library, gymnasium, gaming zones and indoor event spaces.Under the PPP arrangement, the concessionaire will be responsible for operating and maintaining the club during the concession period, ensuring quality services and upkeep. Arora said the project would be executed without any financial burden on the civic body and is expected to generate substantial annual revenue while eliminating recurring maintenance costs.Addressing the gathering, mayor Joshi said the MC was pursuing development projects that enhance citizens’ quality of life while ensuring prudent financial management and sustainable urban growth. He also urged residents to contribute towards cleanliness, adopt healthier lifestyles and support initiatives aimed at building a progressive Chandigarh.The mayor also inaugurated upgraded facilities in Sector 16 market and participated in awareness campaigns on Drug-Free India, Obesity Mukt Bharat and the Swachhata Hi Sewa mission.Box: 70 challans issued in anti-encroachment driveThe municipal corporation Friday conducted an enforcement drive against illegal vending and encroachments across the city, covering the mobile market in Sector 22, Nayagaon barrier, Makhan majra village, Palika Bazaar in Sector 19 and the furniture market in Sector 34.Encroachments were removed from market corridors in Sectors 19 and 34 to restore unobstructed public access. During the drive, enforcement teams issued 70 challans for unauthorised vending and encroachments.
