Lucknow: Doctors in the paediatric surgery department of KGMU cured an 11-year-old boy of a rare congenital bile duct condition using robotic surgery. The Kanpur resident was diagnosed with a choledochal cyst — a condition in which bile duct gets enlarged abnormally. He was admitted to KGMU on May 5 after treatment at several hospitals failed.A team led by department head, Prof J D Rawat, performed robotic surgery on May 26, removing the abnormal duct and creating a new pathway for bile flow from the liver to the intestine. Doctors said the child recovered and was discharged on Thursday. The team included Dr Sudhir Singh, Dr Gurmeet Singh, Dr Kriti Patel, Dr Ayushi Bagga and nursing staff.
