Kanpur: Kalyanpur police on Friday night arrested a man accused of robbing a woman near Gautam Buddha Park crossing in Indira Nagar on Aug 18 following an encounter.The accused, identified as Imran alias Raja, a resident of Kohna, was apprehended during a vehicle-checking drive on Indira Nagar Road, police said.When asked to stop, he allegedly opened fire on police personnel. Police retaliated, injuring him in his right leg. He was later admitted to a hospital for treatment.The FIR was lodged by advocate Prem Kumar, a resident of Indira Nagar in Kalyanpur.According to the complaint, the accused had offered Prem Kumar’s mother a lift. After dropping her near Gautam Buddha Park crossing, he allegedly returned shortly afterwards, pushed her, snatched an earring and fled the spot.Police said seven robbery and theft cases were already registered against the accused.DCP West SM Qasim Abidi said police had seized the accused’s motorcycle and recovered the stolen items. Further legal proceedings are underway.
