Anantnag, Aug 17: In a major outreach aimed at reinforcing commuter safety and transit discipline, the Motor Vehicles Department (MVD), ARTO Anantnag, in collaboration with the Secure Path Civil Society Organization, conducted a high-impact road safety awareness programme at Railway Station Taxi Sumo Stand.

The day-long initiative brought together scores of commercial drivers, Officers of Railway Police Force (RPF), local trade leaders, and civil society representatives.

Addressing the gathering, ARTO Anantnag Mohammad Iqbal Daing highlighted the transformative role of public transport operators: “Professional and responsible public transport drivers hold the key to overhauling our transit system and building a safer future for all.”

Senior Motor Vehicle Inspector Manzoor Ahmad Qureshi reiterated the necessity of strict compliance with traffic regulations, urging operators to adopt proactive road discipline. RPF officials, including the Dy. SP and SHO, reinforced the need for mutual vigilance and inter-agency cooperation to guarantee commuter safety.

Renowned mobility expert and social reformer S-Umar Bhat moderated the proceedings and administered a collective road-safety pledge, urging participants to serve as civic ambassadors for safer roads across the J&K.

Departing from standard enforcement routines, the organizers hosted a felicitation ceremony to award compliant and disciplined drivers for exemplary road conduct.

 Transporters and please attendees lauded the administration’s proactive engagement, urging authorities to institutionalize regular, rotational sensitization programs across the District Anantnag.
