Tarn Taran: Two brothers were allegedly shot dead after a minor collision between a car and a tractor on a narrow village road in Tarn Taran district late Tuesday evening.Surendra Lamba, senior superintendent of police, Tarn Taran, said on Wednesday that the incident took place near Jhabal when 25-year-old Sanampreet Singh, a resident of Jhabal Kalan, was returning home in his car.At the same time, Shehbaz Singh of neighbouring Jhabal Khurd was driving down the opposite direction in a red tractor along with Harkirat Singh, said Lamba.Police said the two vehicles bumped into each other, triggering a heated exchange.On hearing the commotion, Shehbaz’s father, Sukhdev Singh, rushed to the spot from their nearby house. Sanampreet’s father, Gurwinder Singh, his uncle Kulwinder Singh, and his mother, Davinder Kaur, also arrived to intervene.What began as a roadside quarrel turned deadly when Shehbaz allegedly pulled out a revolver and opened fire, hitting both Gurwinder and his brother Kulwinder. The two collapsed on the spot, while the rest scattered in panic.“I, along with my mother and locals, rushed my father and uncle to Amandeep Hospital in Amritsar, but they could not be saved,” Sanampreet said in his complaint to the police.The accused, Shehbaz, fled immediately after the firing, abandoning the tractor at the spot.The SSP said a case was registered at Jhabal police station against Shehbaz, Harkirat and Sukhdev Singh under the relevant sections of the BNS and the Arms Act. Police teams are looking for them, he added.While the FIR attributed the altercation to the collision, local sources claimed that the quarrel started over who would give way on the narrow stretch.Sources within the police claimed that the two families had a long-standing rivalry, which culminated in the fatal shooting.
