Bengaluru: A cab driver’s reckless road rage created panic in the neighbourhood after he tried to mow down another cab driver who confronted him over rash driving. The terrifying incident ended with the victim clinging to the car’s bonnet for nearly a kilometre before locals intervened.According to police, cab driver Ananth, a resident of Laggere, was driving recklessly in Chowdeshwari Nagar around 11pm Friday. Concerned by his dangerous driving, a fellow cab driver, Manjunath, from Mahalakshmi Layout, intercepted the vehicle and questioned Ananth’s behaviour. Manjunath also called police control room to report the incident.Enraged by the complaint, Ananth accelerated his car towards Manjunath in an apparent attempt to run him over.

In the chaos, Manjunath was thrown onto the bonnet of the moving vehicle. Instead of stopping, Ananth continued driving for nearly a kilometre with Manjunath desperately clinging to the bonnet, putting his life at risk. Ananth also ran over a stray dog, which sustained injuries.Locals chased the speeding car, eventually intercepting and forcing it to stop. They accused him of driving under the influence of alcohol. However, before police could arrive, Ananth abandoned the vehicle and fled. Ananth appeared before police Saturday evening. He was subjected to an alcometer test, and the result was negative.Manjunath and Ananth reached a compromise on Sunday and did not file any complaint. “So, we fined Ananth for reckless driving and imposed a fine of Rs 3,000,” a senior officer said.
