Ludhiana: The road caving near Saggu Chowk has deepened with more damage to the big sewer line passing from there. The underground seepage has increased the problem because the sewer manhole wall has collapsed. The officials shared that while they were repairing the damaged water supply line, the sewer manhole wall was also damaged. They need to open it and then fix the fault that will take more days. The road will remain closed for the next few days.It was on June 26 when a deep crater was visible in the road near Saggu Chowk and civic body teams started repairing the road. Under this road, a big sewer line is crossing and it also got damaged several times in the past. The officials claimed that at first their priority was to fix the water supply leakage that has been done but sewer repair is a big task and it will take more time. They will have to clear debris from inside and construct the wall again. Then the sewer manhole will be constructed again. The task will take time and to fix it properly they have dug up the road from the middle and now with the help of a poclain machine they will take up the further work. The sub divisional officer of MC Arjun Sikka who is looking after the work said, “The damage is beyond our expectation as earlier we were thinking seepage happened in the water supply line but now we have come to know that one complete wall is not there. We will try to fix things as soon as possible.”The commuters are forced to take alternate routes to reach their destinations. This road stretch is important for the public as it serves as direct connection with Ferozepur Road from hambran road. Though there are options to reach Ferozeour Road from Saggu Chowk but it takes time from other alternate lanes. The commuters have raised the demand to fix the fault as soon as possible especially when rainy season is about to start. Interestingly this road stretch was constructed recently and now it has been dug up for the repair work.
