Ranchi: Ahead of the festive season, the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) has launched a drive to ensure the city remains well-lit, setting a 48-hour deadline for resolving streetlight complaints and deploying 28 specialised teams across all 53 wards.Reviewing the electrical branch’s preparations on Wednesday, additional municipal commissioner Sanjay Kumar directed officials to maintain round-the-clock vigil and ensure swift maintenance of the urban lighting network.“Movement of citizens increases during upcoming festivals, making superior lighting crucial for convenience, safety, and smooth commuting,” Kumar said.He instructed officials to prioritise dark spots on major roads, busy intersections, commercial hubs and residential neighbourhoods.Officials said RMC Connect Centre receives over 1,000 lighting-related complaints every month. Civic teams must resolve each complaint within 48 hours and submit daily progress reports to monitor efficiency and work quality.Apart from complaint-based action, civic officials, junior engineers and representatives of the maintenance agency have been directed to conduct proactive patrolling and site inspections. In areas with repeated streetlight failures, teams must identify root causes and ensure long-term solutions instead of temporary repairs.Residents can report defunct streetlights or request new installations on RMC’s toll-free helpline: 1800-570-1235.
