Patna: The RJD on Friday raised the issue of the state’s law and order situation with the Centre, as its parliamentarians met Union home minister Amit Shah in Delhi to apprise him of what they described as the fast deteriorating situation and the failure of the govt to check and contain it.“The RJD members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha met Shah and discussed the state’s law and order situation that has gone out of control,” a source close to the RJD’s Lok Sabha parliamentary party said.“They also submitted a memorandum to Shah and underlined their concerns on the issue,” the source added, saying all the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha MPs of the RJD were present during the meeting. The MPs included Abhay Kumar Kushwaha, Sudhakar Singh, Surendra Prasad Yadav and Misa Bharti from Lok Sabha, as well as Prem Chand Gupta, Amarendra Dhari Singh, Sanjay Yadav and Manoj Kumar Jha from Rajya Sabha. While incidents of heinous crime and murders have become frequent in recent months in the state, the immediate trigger for the RJD’s sharp reaction on Friday came in the backdrop of the killing of Jagatveer Rai (60) by a sub-inspector of Gaighat police station using his service revolver at Chornia village in Muzaffarpur district last week.Following the incident, RJD working president and leader of opposition in the state assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav met members of the victim’s family in their village on Wednesday.“Crime and criminal incidents have increased alarmingly in the state, and the police have totally failed to control it. In fact, the government and the administration seem to have lost will to rule and govern the state. The situation is becoming anarchical,” Tejashwi told reporters before leaving for Chornia village under the Gaighat police station area. The statement immediately drew a response from the BJP, as deputy chief minister Samrat Choudhary holds the home portfolio.“The leader of opposition will say what he has said, but the important point is that the action is being taken to establish the rule of law in the state,” deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha had said, countering Tejashwi.
