Dimapur: Nagaland CM Neiphiu Rio on Friday virtually inaugurated 16 sports infrastructure projects of the state youth resources and sports department at the chief minister’s residential complex in Kohima.Union youth affairs and sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya was present at the programme.Addressing the gathering, Rio said the state govtadopted a long-term strategy to transform sports in Nagaland. He said the aim was to develop sports infrastructure on a par with the best in the country and provide athletes with quality training facilities.Rio said the inauguration was not just about opening new buildings, but about creating new opportunities for people across the state. Though the projects were inaugurated virtually from different locations, he described the occasion as a milestone for Nagaland’s sports sector.Highlighting the growing importance of sports, Rio said it moved beyond recreation and emerged as a vibrant sector capable of generating employment and creating opportunities.He said a strong sporting culture, better training for coaches and trainers, and greater exposure for athletes would help the state nurture talent.Of the 16 projects, four have been developed under the Khelo India scheme and 12 are state-funded initiatives. The facilities include multipurpose halls, indoor sports halls, futsal grounds and administrative infrastructure across several districts of Nagaland.
