Thiruvananthapuram: BJP MLA B B Gopakumar asked govt to review its decision to constitute a new administrative reforms commission, saying it would impose an additional burden on the exchequer amid the state’s financial crisis. Govt should disclose the financial liability involved in appointing M K Muneer as the chairman with cabinet rank, including the expenditure on staff, office, vehicle, travel and other allowances. It should explain the outcome it expects from the commission, he added. Then CM Pinarayi Vijayan had informed the assembly that the fourth commission, headed by V S Achuthanandan, had cost the exchequer Rs 10.79 crore till April 30, 2021 and that it submitted 13 reports.“People have the right to know how many recommendations were fully or partly implemented and how many are pending. A fresh commission is unnecessary if govt cannot ensure the implementation of earlier recommendations,” he said.BJP national executive member Kummanam Rajasekharan demanded a review of govt’s decision and said it should publish a clear account of the expenditure incurred by the previous commission and the results it achieved.Gopakumar also demanded that former PWD minister Muneer be made a co-accused in the investigation against CEC Gyanesh Kumar. Govt had ordered a fresh vigilance enquiry into corruption allegations linked to Kerala State Transport Project and the 2006 death of a Malaysian engineer associated with it when Kumar was PWD secretary. LDF and UDF should explain why no action was taken against him during their tenure in office, he said, adding that this matter must be probed.Govt should disclose the action it took on BJP’s demand for a case against ex-CM Pinarayi Vijayan based on an ED submission, he said, in a reference to CMRL-Exalogic payoff case.
