Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Wednesday issued a stern warning to Congress leaders, especially in-charge MLAs, giving them 10 days to step up awareness campaigns on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls or face replacement as constituency in-charges.At an online meeting attended by ministers, MPs, MLCs, MLAs, constituency in-charges and senior party leaders, including AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan and TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, the CM stressed that protecting voting rights must be treated as a top political priority.Revanth directed ministers to take greater responsibility for the districts assigned to them and ensure that awareness programmes reach every eligible voter. He cautioned that the deletion of names from electoral rolls could have wider consequences for vulnerable sections of society.“The SIR issue is a serious matter. Some leaders are being negligent about the SIR. I will not remain a silent spectator when the party suffers damage. I have already received district-wise reports regarding the SIR awareness meetings conducted by the in-charge leaders,” he said.Calling for an intensified campaign, the CM said every constituency must witness extensive outreach activities, with ministers personally overseeing the programmes. “All leaders should strictly adhere to party directives. The in-charges will be replaced with new ones if they failed to implement the party instructions. We will not tolerate any negligence and will observe the performance of the in-charges for 10 days,” Revanth said.He also appealed to Congress-affiliated sarpanches to organise SIR awareness programmes in every village.Meenakshi urged party workers and leaders to actively participate in the SIR campaign beginning Thursday. “The right to vote is a fundamental right guaranteed by the Constitution. We must safeguard the people’s right to vote. The illiterate, poor and some of the rural populations may not be fully aware of the SIR. We must ensure that the SIR programme reaches every eligible individual,” she said. She asked Congress leaders and booth-level agents (BLAs) to establish camps in villages, compare the 2002 and 2025 voter lists and ensure that no eligible voter is deprived of the franchise.Mahesh Goud said there should be “absolutely no negligence” in any constituency. “We are witnessing the kind of politics the BJP is playing across the country. The BJP won in West Bengal, mainly by stealing votes. The TMC lost power there because they were not vigilant enough. The BJP is conspiring to remove secular votes. BLAs must play a crucial role,” he added.
