Kanpur: A 65-year-old retired sub-inspector of the Madhya Pradesh Police allegedly died by suicide at his house in Kohra village under the Sajeti police station area late Saturday.According to police, family members had gone to attend a relative’s condolence gathering and, upon returning home, found his room locked from inside.Suspecting something amiss, they entered the room through the rear side of the house and found him hanging from a rope tied to a ceiling fan.The family brought him down and rushed him to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Ghatampur, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.After being informed, police reached the spot and sent the body for postmortem examination.Family members told police that the deceased had become withdrawn following the death of his wife five years ago and might have taken the extreme step possibly due to emotional distress.Sajeti station house officer Anuj Kumar Bharti said police and forensic experts inspected the scene and collected evidence. Further investigation is underway.
