Mangaluru: Retired Kannada lecturer and an expert in Kannada literature, research and inscriptions, SD Shetty,80, passed away at a private hospital in Mysuru on Wednesday, following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. His last rites will be performed in Ujire on Thursday.Hailing from Honnavar, Shetty obtained his MA in Kannada from Karnataka University in 1971. During his 35-year tenure at SDM College, Ujire, he served as a Kannada lecturer, reader, professor and head of the department before retiring. He also served as director of the Dr HA.MA.NA research centre in Ujire, and held key positions at SDM Publications, the Sri Manjunatheshwara Cultural Research Foundation and the Manjusha Museum, where he served as director. He authored several books on Jainism, inscriptions and research, and also participated as a resource person in several seminars. Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D Veerendra Heggade has condoled the death.
