Bokaro: A retired Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) employee and his wife were allegedly shot dead and their son critically injured after unidentified assailants opened fire at their quarter in Bokaro’s Chandrapura during a thunderstorm on Thursday night, police said.The victims were identified as Naresh Sinha, 65, and his wife, Renu, 59. Their son, Rohit Sinha, 30, sustained multiple bullet injuries and was taken to Chandrapura hospital. He was later referred to Bokaro General Hospital and shifted to Ranchi for advanced treatment.Preliminary information suggests the assailants knocked on the door of the quarter at West Palli colony. As soon as the door was opened, they allegedly fired indiscriminately before fleeing. Naresh and Renu died on the spot, while Rohit was left critically injured.Rohit’s friend, Naveen Mahto, said he had suffered four bullet injuries. Police reached the spot after receiving information about firing and stone pelting outside a house in West Palli. However, the attackers had escaped by the time they arrived.Bokaro SP Nathu Singh Meena said a forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence. “Two live rounds, believed to have been dropped after misfiring, and two used cartridges were recovered from the spot,” he said.“We are examining the case from every possible angle,” Meena said, adding that documents recovered from the house were being scrutinised to help investigators trace the killers and reconstruct the sequence of events.Police are questioning residents and examining the documents and other evidence collected from the house. The motive behind the double murder has not yet been established, and investigators are also trying to ascertain how many assailants were involved.Officials are verifying the report of stone pelting outside the house and examining whether it was linked to the firing. Police said efforts were on to identify the accused and establish the circumstances leading to the killings.
