Guwahati: Vehicular movement along the India-Bhutan border in Assam has been restricted from Monday evening in view of the April 9 assembly elections, officials said.Tamulpur district magistrate and district election officer Simi Karan, in an order, said the restrictions will remain in force till the polling process concludes. The directive follows Election Commission instructions to close all international land borders ahead of voting.According to the order, relaxations will be allowed for Bhutanese citizens crossing over for medical emergencies, Indian citizens or foreign tourists already inside Bhutan with valid documents, tourists travelling to Bhutan with proper papers, and voters of Tamulpur and Goreswer constituencies. Vehicles carrying perishable essential commodities will also be exempted.The district administration has urged departments concerned, security agencies and the public to strictly comply with the directives.
