Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao on Saturday extended his support to Nalsar students, saying that in a democracy, when young people feel that their dignity or self-respect has been attacked, they would naturally raise their voice and resist. He said the Nalsar students had stood courageously for their rights and dignity, and thanked CJI Surya Kant for recognising the special relationship between students and the judiciary.Addressing the media, he said the voice of students, their rights and their struggle for justice must be given due respect in a democratic system. “It is not good for democracy when those in positions of authority crossed the limits of their powers,” KTR said, and called upon all institutions to function impartially without allowing any scope for abuse of authority. The officials concerned and institutions should take adequate precautions to ensure that such incidents were not repeated in future, he added.KTR made it clear that everyone must respect the right of young people to question those in authority and stand up for their self-respect in a democracy. “Instead of suppressing students when they raise questions, those in power have a responsibility to answer their questions,” he said.
