Jamshedpur: East Singhbhum deputy commissioner (DC) Rajiv Ranjan on Monday directed district officials to remove roadside stalls, kiosks and other temporary structures in the city in a phased manner and arrange alternative measures for those affected.Chairing a review meeting to curb illegal parking and streamline city traffic, Ranjan said unregulated parking, encroachments on the roads and unregulated movements of autorickshaws are disrupting traffic flow and increasing risk of accidents on city roads. The DC asked officials to develop the auto stand in Sakchi with basic amenities and earmark route-wise and zone-wise parking spaces. “Autos on each route should operate only from their designated locations,” he said.He directed the Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) and Tata Steel Utility and Infrastructure Services Ltd. (TS UISL) to jointly prepare a plan to provide sheds, drinking water and toilets for auto drivers at the stand.Concerned over autos stopping at intersections and main roads to pick up and drop passengers, the DC asked traffic police to conduct regular enforcement drives. He also ordered inspections of autos running with permits issued for other regions and action as per regulations. The DC called for a dress code for drivers, mandatory fare chart display in all autos, and strict safety compliance, including ensuring the right side of autos remains properly covered.Citing a shortage of parking spaces, he said on-street parking is a major challenge and directed TS UISL and JNAC to identify suitable parking locations. Officials were instructed to relocate the parking facility outside PM Mall and prevent parking along the service road outside Bindal Mall, ensuring use of in-mall parking.A vending zone in Sakchi, removal of hawker encroachments from Sakchi market spilling onto roads and building infrastructure for organised business were also discussed at the meet. Ranjan said affected individuals be informed in advance and all drives follow due process and legal procedures.Senior district officials, including the SP (Rural), SP (City), SDO Dhalbhum, SDO Ghatsila, Dy SP (Traffic) and JNAC Deputy Town Commissioner, attended the meeting.
