Mira Bhayander: At least 39 people have been booked for being part of a celebration to welcome an alleged drug peddler, Kamran Mohamed Khan, soon after he was released on bail from Thane Central Jail. Nine of those booked have been identified, the police said, adding that the nine are drug peddlers.The man released on bail had been arrested in 2021 in a narcotics case.The nine people received him as he stepped out of jail and then began a jamboree that included a convoy of cars — crackers were lit, loud music blared out and pedestrians were obstructed — from Thane up to Mira Road. A video of the celebration was shot and made into a reel which was put out on FridayThe nine were joined en route by at least 30 other unidentified persons who have also been booked. Another video has gone viral showing the police crack down on the revellers the following day. A case was filed at Nayanagar police station, Mira Road on Saturday. —Vishal Rajemahadik
