Baramulla , August 19 : Non-gazetted employees of Government Medical College (GMC) Baramulla have started an indefinite peaceful protest over the continued delay in framing recruitment rules, which they said have been pending for nearly seven years.
The employees stated that they had earlier staged a protest following which the administration assured them that the recruitment rules would be finalized within three months. However, they alleged that the assurance was not fulfilled and the process remains pending.
The protesting employees said they would continue their agitation until a senior official from the administration or Health Department, including the Health Secretary, intervenes and provides a clear and time-bound assurance on the issue.
They claimed that the absence of recruitment rules has hampered the appointment of fresh staff in newly established medical colleges, resulting in significant manpower shortages. According to the employees, several institutions are functioning with around 50 per cent staff shortages.
The employees said the shortage has increased the workload on existing staff and is adversely affecting the delivery of healthcare services and patient care.
They appealed to the concerned authorities to address the matter urgently, frame the recruitment rules and initiate the recruitment process without further delay.
