Patiala: A driver at Gurdwara Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib on Monday joined the investigation into the rape case registered against former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Amarjeet Singh Chawla and recorded his statement before the Ropar police.DSP, Sri Anandpur Sahib, Jashandeep Singh Mann said Mohan Singh, a resident of Sri Anandpur Sahib, was questioned for nearly six hours at the City Sri Anandpur Sahib police post.Police had issued him a notice under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita in connection with FIR No. 149, dated Aug 21, 2026. The case was registered under Sections 64, 127(2) and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Sri Anandpur Sahib police station, the DSP said.According to Mann, Mohan Singh confirmed that he worked as a driver at the gurdwara. He also submitted that the complainant had stayed for about eight months at various sarais near Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. He drove her to adjoining gurdwaras on several occasions as part of his duty, the police said.Police claimed the driver revealed that Chawla arranged the complainant’s accommodation, food and local transport at the sarais and maintained regular contact with her.“He also claimed that SGPC officials overseeing the sarais’ daily administration knew about the arrangements and contact between Chawla and the complainant,” the police added.DSP Mann said police were comprehensively verifying all facts and statements, and further legal action would be taken in accordance with the law.
