Ranchi: A man was allegedly dragged on the bonnet of a high-end car in the Doranda area on Tuesday, the video of which went viral on social media. The car belonged to a high court lawyer, Manoj Tandon, who allegedly hit a biker identified as Mawaj Khan near the Rajendra Chowk under the Doranda police station limits. Khan clung to the bonnet of the car while Tandon said he was speeding away from a mob to save himself. Later, both the lawyer and the biker reach a settlement.The incident triggered an exchange of words between the two, followed by a huge crowd assembly.

Hatia DSP P K Mishra said, “According to the biker’s statement, he was travelling from the Doranda side when the lawyer’s car hit him at the Rajendra Chowk, damaging his bike’s braking system. When Khan demanded compensation, Tandon refused. As a crowd gathered, Tandon, fearing public anger, drove to his nearby residence with Khan clinging to the car’s bonnet.”Later, police took both parties to the Doranda station. “They both lodged written complaints at the police station. We are collecting evidence and investigating the matter. Meanwhile, no arrests have been made,” Mishra said.Opposing Khan’s claims, Tandon claimed that after he met with the accident, the biker stopped the car and accosted him, asking him to first pay Rs 500 for the damage caused to his bike, and the demand for money rose to Rs 2,000 in a minute.Talking to the TOI, Tandon said the biker had suddenly come in front of his car from the wrong side, due to which there was a slight knock. “Neither the biker nor his bike was damaged. I was harassed and abused by the mob, who wanted me to come out of the car. I could only save myself by staying locked inside the car. There was no other choice for me but to leave the spot or else I had to face death itself,” Tandon said. He added that the biker, wearing a helmet, jumped onto the bonnet of the car. “Despite asking him to get down, he denied. The mob was chasing me as I rushed for safety to my flat in Doranda. The mob also surrounded the flat,” he said.Jharkhand State Bar Council outgoing chairman Rajendra Krishna said an advocate was harassed and was about to be lynched by a mob. “There was no other alternative but to run from the spot to save his life,” he said.
