Ranchi: The Ranchi district education department has introduced monthly board-pattern examinations for Class X and XII students under the district’s ‘Gift of Education’ initiative. The tests will be held on the 10th, 11th and 12th of every month, with results released by the 22nd to identify toppers, average performers, and students requiring remedial support ahead of the board exams.The 80-mark examinations will be based on the syllabus covered during the month, with a 50-member core team of teachers, preparing lesson-wise question papers.Ranchi district education officer (DEO) Wasim Ahmed said the exercise would allow the department to classify students based on their performance and intervene accordingly.“Based on the monthly results, students will be classified as toppers, average performers, and those requiring remedial support. This will help us identify students who need additional academic support well before board examinations,” he said.Students identified for remedial support will be taught during assembly periods, so that their regular classes are not disrupted. The department will also provide model answers to students, based on their performance in the tests.The department would also introduce pair learning, under which high-performing students would help classmates who are struggling with particular lessons. “We want students to learn from each other. Those performing well can share their understanding and help weaker students improve,” he said.The monthly tests are also intended to familiarise students with the board examination pattern well ahead of the final exams.Sanskrit teacher of TVS CM SoE, Sarita Sinha, said, “Children will be able to prepare throughout the year and get regular practice. By February, students requiring remedial support will have enough time to work on their weak areas as they would already have faced and solved papers based on the board pattern several times,” she said.
